Laura Cunningham Artist
I am a graduate of Edinburgh college of art and I live locally in the Newington area of Edinburgh.
As a mature student I graduated in 2007 with a B.A. Honours in drawing and painting. I work part time in my small studio at home as well as my main occupation which is managing a day centre for elderly, isolated members of the community.
I have enjoyed encouraging my elderly members to participate in art which has brought me great joy.
Since graduating, work commitments have taken over but I have always found time for painting.
The recent lockdown has made me evaluate my art again and the actual process of making art which is what really enjoy. I have been busy producing several paintings using acrylic paint on canvas or board. My work is based on my emotional response to the environment and landscape as well as objects that interest me.
During the current restrictions and being in lockdown meant that I had to use what was around me for inspiration and it has been quite a challenge and I am delighted to be able to show my work in the hope that I might inspire others to take up a paintbrush and get creative. Its never too late.
In the past I have exhibited at the RSA as invited graduate artist
I have had a work exhibited at the Mitchell Library and also had a joint exhibition at the Scottish Arts Club and Out of the Blue studios.
More recently I have exhibited at my local Newington Library.
