Beginner Crochet: learn to crochet in just four weeks under the expert tuition of knitting and crochet teacher Wendy Irvine!
Wendy has been teaching beginner crochet and knitting classes (as well as more advanced techniques) for Edinburgh Adult Learning for over three years as well as teaching with the Knitting and Crochet Guild. Feedback has been very positive and a student who has been with her for three years tells friends she is still learning new crochet skills! She teaches a variety of crochet skills including Tunisian, Broomstick, Irish Lace and Hairpin along with traditional crochet and teaches both children and adults. This beginner crochet course is suitable for adults and children over 10 years of age.
In these workshops you will learn basic chain stitch, double and treble crochet.
Workshop 1: embrace the Nordic Hygge theme by creating the lovely bunting featured in our picture
Workshop 2: learn to join new colours and make a traditional granny square
Workshop 3: use treble crochet to make a beautiful scarf
Workshop 4: using a combination of stitches you will make a lovely piece of neckwear or ‘go large’ and make a summer shrug!
You will need a 4mm crochet hook. A yarn kit will be available to buy or you can bring along your own Hygge colours from your own ‘stash’. Further information and requirements for the subsequent workshops will be discussed during the first class.
Refreshments are included in the workshop cost. Book all four workshops for £100.
In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Cosying up with a loved one for a movie – that’s hygge, too. And there’s nothing more hygge than sitting around with friends and family, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are some of the happiest people in the world. Learning to crochet in a small group of like minded people while enjoying a cuppa and some baking could be hygge too – why not come along and find out?
