Helen Smart- Art by Smart – visual artist
Born in Fife, Scotland I went to school there.
I came to Edinburgh in 1972 where I studied textile design at Edinburgh College of Art. I took up painting in 1998, working in watercolour, acrylic and oils. I ran the Grove Gallery from 2007-2010 in the Fountainbridge district of Edinburgh, where I displayed my own work and that of local artists. I staged exhibitions there, such as ‘Urban Landscapes’ and ‘New Horizons’.
My artistic practice focuses on three forms: land, sea and city. My paintings and drawings draw inspiration from the Impressionists and the Scottish Colourists, including their interpretation of colour and form. The work presented here reflects my interaction with the natural and built environment.
As well as original works, we stock Helen’s prints and cards.
She has already completed a commission for one of our customers and is always delighted to discuss commission ideas.
