Description
The first of three workshops for artists and crafters to help set up and start selling their work.
Linsay Given Black ran ICE Retail, a shop window for artists and crafters working in Scotland and now runs her own craft business, babashuh, as well as Art & Craft Collective, a gallery and workshop space for independent artists and crafters, so she has experience of both approaching retailers and of being approached.
The workshop will cover targeting the right retailers for your work, preparing your approach, the different types of retail arrangement and which will work for you, making your ‘pitch’ and following up the approach.
It will take place in the Art & Craft Collective Gallery at 93 Causewayside, Edinburgh so that participants can role play approaches and also see examples of what works well.
Places are limited to five attendees, as discussion and sharing experiences is an important part of the workshop and more people make this more difficult!
Three of the five people who attended our first workshop became part of the Collective and are still selling through the Gallery six months later and have successfully approached and been accepted by other Galleries and gift shops.
The workshop costs £25, including refreshments and a comprehensive handout.
There are two other workshops for artists and crafters in this series: Dipping Your Toe in the Digital Water and Backroom Toolbox – further details to follow!
A little bit of feedback from Janie Morris, Morris of Portobello from our first workshop:
