Dyeing and Felting Workshop

with Susan Thomson, The Wee Garden Studio

Saturday 23 April 10 am – 2.30 pm

£60 per person, including all materials, teas and coffees

Taking place at Enable, 95 Causewayside (next door to Art & Craft Collective) Edinburgh EH9 1QG

Places are strictly limited to six people and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis but should demand exceed supply we will place names on a waiting list and run another workshop later in the year.  Social distancing measures will be in place and masks may be worn.

Learn how to dye your own wool and felt it using the wet felting technique employed to such marvellous effect by our Collectivist Susan Thomson.  Transform your felt into either a brooch or small decorative panel.

At the end of the workshop, you will have your own keepsake to take home!

Dyeing and Felting

Susan Thomson in her own words:

I retired from a long career in Education in 2012 and was inspired, after a visit to a local artist’s gallery, to take up this form of textile painting and creating as a hobby. I spent a few years learning the craft at workshops and attending Master Classes in Northern Scotland.

With lots of experimenting using various silks and wool fibres, I have developed my own unique style in the pieces I create. I enjoy travelling round Scotland where I get much of the inspiration for my pictures, with a little artistic license of course!

I like nothing better than creating scarves using all kinds of silks, lace and finest merino wool. I also make smaller gifts.

I share my enthusiasm for this textile craft by running workshops by request from various interested groups. I also tailor workshops to suit individuals in my peaceful Garden Studio.

And I am delighted to have the opportunity to run larger scale workshops through my involvement with Art & Craft Collective.”

Workshop Attendance Dos and Don’ts

All materials are provided however if you have skeins of wool that you would particularly like to incorporate, please bring them with you.

Please wear old ‘working’ clothes that you don’t mind being stained with dye and perhaps an apron.

Please bring a plastic bag to transport your picture home as it may be damp when you finish.

You will also take home a booklet which reminds you of the processes you use to make your picture.
