Description
Our first textile exhibition!
We are delighted to welcome textile artists from Group Twelve who will each be exhibiting two works – a uniformly sized ‘minimum’ piece and a free form ‘maximum’ using a range of techniques from applique to stumpwork, felt to hand and machine stitching.
Group Twelve (https://www.facebook.com/groupxii/) is a group of textile artists based in Edinburgh who undertake mixed media and fibre art exhibitions from a wealth of experience in creative embroidery and design.
Initially consisting of twelve students studying City & Guilds Creative Studies at Edinburgh’s Telford College in 1994, Group Twelve now has a membership of textile artists who come from Central, Fife and Southern Scotland. The Group hold a textile exhibition every two years seeking to raise awareness of stitched textiles as an art form.
Nine of the Group Twelve artists are participating in the exhibition: Pamea Atchison, Evelyn Couper, Carrie Duthie, Gail Grant, Marjory Grant, Mary Gillespie, Gillian Sandilands, Catherine Skelton and Frea Webster.
They have taken their inspiration from a range of sources: specific locations such as The Lochans on the West Coast of Scotland and the Dutch Wadden Islands and more abstract subjects like early morning light on the sea, fences in varying states of disrepair and a walk in the forest.
The textile exhibition runs from October 10 until 21 November 2019 and will include ‘Meet the Maker’ sessions on selected Sunday afternoonss during the run of the exhibition when visitors can meet and talk to the artists and see them work!
